i think they SHOULD be old. like, the people who lived in the sunken city were faeries with a water element. OOH OH!!!
Story Suggestion:
The land of Destina was mostly a peaceful place, but there were some outlaws, and, in the days of old, outlaws were executed. It was a standard practice, carried out by the royalties of the various ethers. Once, there lived a young Echa (girl or boy, you decide) who had lost his/her parents to an illness. She/He lived on the outskirts of the ether, stealing, as was necessary, to stay alive. His/her element was water. She/he was stealing fruit from the market one day, when he/she was caught. As was standard procedure, she/he was taken to the palace for trial. Terrified of prosecution, frightened of death, and on the verge of collapse, he/she fled to an island far from land. He/she swam for days, and once upon the island, named it Enidweith. From that day forward, outlaws poured in from far and wide, seeking shelter for their various crimes. Then, one fateful day, the island began to sink, slowly but surely. It took weeks for the people to notice, and by the time they did, it was far too late. The island was still exposed, but more than half the population had drowned in the floods. Only the king/queen and a few of the other water elements survived. Eventually, they adapted to life underwater, making themselves homes in what was left of their island. They became mermaid like creatures, shrouded in mystery, until everyone forgot they existed.....
